CHRISTMAS CHEER FOR STEWART AND COLOURS

Match Report: 27.12.07

Colours: Stewart, Felix, Rupert, Tony, James, Paul B, Rich (B), Steve W

Yellows: Tom, Rich, Rob, Steve C, Al, Mark GM, Jamie, Badge (last 15)

Score: Colours 3-0 Yellows

Stewart's roll continues as again his choice of team seemed to be an error of judgement, but again he proved the doubters wrong by winning yet again. At the end of the game Stewart said to me that people should not doubt his team choices anymore and he would be right.

The defence for the Colours was rock solid, with James, Paul, Rupert and Felix providing and secure platform for for the rest.

The game was evenly balanced in the early stages as some of the players looked weighed down by a combination of beer, Turkey and pies. However Stewart did open the scoring with a well taken goal and then the game finally opened up. However this did not seem to help the Yellows who were hampered by a leg injury to Mark GM (worryingly though he still out sprinted me, even with a limp! Getting old!) , some fine final blocks, some good saves, notably from Felix and luck when a Rich drive smacked off the post.

It did seem strange that the Yellows struggled to score with Mark and a one off game for Jamie, down over the Christmas period. In fact not did they only struggle to score but the Colours increased their lead with another goal from Stewart. Tom became desperate soon after this and roped an off duty Badge into his team in order to make the necessary breakthrough. They then did put the Colours under pressure, but rarely threatened even with their increased fire power.

To add insult to injury Steve Twinkle toes Whitcher, for the second game in a row, made the game safe with a late well taken goal. It was no more than the Colours deserved as they played some good football with everyone playing well and Rich particularly impressing with some neat tidy footwork. Steve W was begging to be man of the match, but failed to read my blog stating no more awards this year! Just to make you feel better Steve you played OK!

Happy New Year to the Tuesday boys, let's hope we have some more good games in 2008, see you next year.

GOAL MACHINE TAKES THE HONOURS ON FINAL TUESDAY OF 2007

Brief Match Report: 18.12.07

Colours: Stewart, Rich (Blond), Rich, Steve W, Rupert, Tony, Paul P, Bob, Steve C (1st 3/4)

Yellows: Tom, Paul B, Mark GM, Shane, Jimmer, Rob, James, Scott, Steve (last 1/4)

Score: Colours 6-4 Yellows

On paper this seemed to be a game that Tom and his Yellows team would break their losing streak, especially as there were 5 players of the 2007 season in his team. However it was not to be as the Colours played catch up after they fell 2-1 down. In fact the first 3 goals conceded by the Yellows were gift wrapped presents, which Santa would have been proud of. The worse offender being Rich who tried to keep the ball in but then presented it to Mark GM.

Despite this the Colours went on to win playing good football on the way and Bob had the final say with two goals to wrap proceedings up. Hark the Herald Angels sing for Stew as his winning streak goes on, and his magic formula is..........HARMONY. Stew believes that a team that gets on is a winning team and who would argue with this?

No man of the match tonight guys as this will restart in the New Year.

There will be a match on 27.12.07 at 11am, to run some of that Turkey off. Let Tom know if you are keen.

Awards for 2007. Congratulations to the following winners:

SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR (Not necessarily the best player!) - Paul Brennan (Always plays the game in the right spirit).

THE PETE SWIFT AWARD - RUPERT BOLGER (for the website work. Keep reading the blog boys)

PLAYER OF THE YEAR - MARK REID. Well done Mark well deserved.

Finally the most recorded wins winners were Rupert (19), Paul B (13) and Steve C (12). That may raise a few eyebrows and there was strictly no cheating on this!

ROUND UP/TEAM OF THE YEAR

It is the time of year to wrap things up folks and the panel have met, over some mince pies and mulled wine, to discuss the team of 2007:

Rupert
Paul B James Steve C
Jimmer Mark GM Tom TJ Jamie
Badge Stew
Thanks for all the players this year for making it another good year and of course a special thanks to Tom for his ongoing commitment.
Thanks to Jimmer for one of the funniest evenings. On one evening he scored 6 goals including a hatrick, an own goal, one in the hockey goal and one in the goal to the side of the pitch.
Spare a thought for Rich who had some freak injuries this year, including a damaged ankle or two, broken ribs (sorry!) and a comedy painful moment when he fell backwards over the goal. Obviously Rich broke a mirror at some point.
There will be no more Man of the Match awards for this year, so well done to Mark GM for coming out on top on this one with 5. Also there were good showings for Jamie and Tom with 4 a piece and the ever consistent Paul B with 3.

COLOURS SKATE THEIR WAY TO COMFORTABLE WIN

Match Report: 11.12.07

Colours: Stewart, Mark GM, Rich (Blond), Neil, Jimmer, Rupert, Paul P, Tony

Yellows: James, Paul B, Rich, Scott, Strech, Bob, Badge, John, Steve W

Score: Colours 6 - 3 Yellows

The games have been really tight lately, but this was a cruise for the Colours who also played with a man less. The Colours played some delightful passing football, leaving the Yellows chasing shadows for most of the match; but at least this kept them warm in sub zero temperatures with the pitch more like an ice rink than a football pitch. Players were cautious about their footing and Mark GM took one nasty fall chasing a lost cause, but luckily he was OK.

The Colours did all the early running and scored quick early goals through Stewart, Jimmer and Rich. Then followed some calamitous moments when Rupert did a fresh air kick, Scott laughed at him then missed an open goal, Jimmer missed an open goal, then Tony threw the ball to Bob who hit it back in for 3-1.

This did not deter the one man less Colours who scored again through Mark GM and though they were pegged back by Bob they took complete control and went 6-2 up, with Stewart completing his hatrick (though he was gifted one by James who made a complete hash of one of them while in goal).

The Colours were able to play the game out with relative ease, with just the one alarm of conceding a late goal to Badge (who then announced the score was 5-4!).

Man of the Match: This was a good team effort from the Colours who passed the ball around well. Worth noting was Tony's long range pass to Stew, who then buried it. This week has to go for Stew, for a good hard working performance and 3 goals as well.
