ANDY STARS IN NIGHT OF LOW NUMBERS

Match Report: 26.8.08

Colours: Rupert, Andy, Bob, Rock, Paul P

Yellows: Rob, Paul B, Jimmer, Rich, James

Score: Colours 5-4 Yellows

When there is a game of low numbers, possibly due to some watching the Saints win again, or holidays, it would always suit the people with superior fitness levels and Andy has plenty of lung capacity, just watching him left me exhausted.

It was a close game as the teams tended to trade goals and although the Colours generally led all the way through they never got away. Only in the last 10 minutes they gave themselves some breathing space when in a short space of time Andy took a pass from Rupert with a neat first chance and a rasping drive with his second, he then showed Jimmer how to finish when he completed his hatrick scoring from the tightest of angles.

Before this Andy, Bob and Rock had scored for the Colours and Jimmer did score and Rich showed his quality by scoring a couple, a late goal from Rob was only consolation for the Yellows.

This game will also be remembered for some howlers in front of goal, first Bob missed an open goal and then Jimmer had a miserable night missing plenty of open goals, tomorrow is another day Jimmer sleep well.

Man of the Match: Andy started slowly, but as people tired he kept going and he can now challenge the Kenyans in the 5 and 10K. Last minute tackles, up and down the pitch scoring good goals, fully deserved tonight and now closes in on Rich with the MoM awards.

COLOURS AND YELLOWS SHARE THE SPOILS

Match Report: 19.8.08

Colours: Stewart, Paul P, Rock, Stretch, Jim, Rob, James

Yellows: Tony, Paul B, Rupert, Bob, Jimmer, Rich, Scott

Score: Colours 5-5 Yellows

This was a game that looked like it was going to be close at the beginning and indeed ended in a draw.

The Yellows started the better and scored quick goals through Rich and Jimmer, but then were set back by Paul B's heavy fall, putting him in goal for a while, and then an even heavier fall for Tony that put him out of the game. Despite this the Yellows increased their lead when Rich scored his second.

However it was not long before the Colours started to make their superior numbers count and Stew pulled one back when he beat Rupert at his near post. Before long it was 3 all with another goal by the impressive Stew and then Rob coolly slotted home for 3.

It looked like it could be a long night for the Yellows especially when Stew completed his hatrick to make it 4-3. The Yellows then relied on Rich to conjure up something and he did not disappoint as he also completed his hatrick. After this the game became a lot closer and both teams had great chances to take the lead, in fact the only goals were then scored by Stretch and then Bob levelled up. In fact the Yellows were grateful to Bob who denied James when he saved his point blank shot with his foot.

Man of the Match: This was close one between Rich and Stew who both had good games, but Stew gets it this week as his form continues to impress and he worked hard for his team tonight and scored a good hatrick.

COMPLACENT COLOURS PAY THE PRICE

Match Report 5.8.08

Colours: Stew, Andy, Felix, Jaidi, Paul P, Paul L, Paul B

Yellows: Tony, Rob, Rupert, Rock, Scott, Steve C, Bob, Badge

Score: Colours 5 - 5 Yellows

What a strange game and I am sure the Colours will look at themselves in the mirror tonight and think I need a shave, no that is Stew, will think 'How the hell did we lose that?' A game we completely dominated for the first half hour, indeed at one point Stew was looking to change it as it was so one sided that a cricket score was on and they were a man down!

The Colours were off to a flyer and their quick passing tempo was too much for the sluggish Yellows who did not know what hit them. Andy, Jaidi and Stew were tearing the Yellows apart and they were 3 up in no time. First Stew fed Andy who finished smartly, then Andy finished coolly again, before Stew finished after good work from Jaidi. At this point Rupert got the hell out of goal.

However the goal glut continued when Andy smashed home for his third and added a fourth with a fine individual effort. At this point the Yellows were all over the place and were arguing like a married couple (not in my experience though!) While on the other hand the Colours were having a ball with even Stew laughing and joking.

However football is a funny game and the turning point was when Stew had an easy tap in for 6 but unselfishly (yes that is right) squared it to Paul P but he blazed over. Back came the Yellows and Badge scored 2 quick goals, but this seemed like consolation goals particularly as the Colours looked like they had more goals in them. This was not the case and further goals from Bob and then Rock made the game close. Then with time running out Badge got his hatrick, yet another to his collection, to level it up. In the end Stew was pleased to hear the final whistle, but surely he should have won this game at a cantor.

Man of the Match: Andy was simply outstanding, despite being on holiday in Spain for a month he was charging all over the place, scoring goals, setting up and so on. Although he faded slightly he did more than enough to win this weeks award.
