STALEMATE IN TJ FAREWELL NIGHT

Match Report: 27.11.07

Yellows: Tom, Steve C, Paul B, Rob, TJ, Badge, Bob, Steve W, Felix (1st half)
Colours: Stewart, Mark GM, James, John, Rupert, Scott, Tony, Paul P, Felix (2nd half)

Score: Yellows 6-6 Colours

So it is farewell to TJ who is off to the west country the land of the proper shaped ball, boo, hiss I hear you cry, but TJ will enjoy the oval game of football! Unfortunately for TJ he had a quiet game unusually quiet game on his last appearance.

The game itself was a bit of a mess as everybody seemed to be playing frantic football at times with the ball becoming a hot potato.

The Colours, despite starting with a man less, made the better start and took an early lead when Badge was caught out in goal allowing Mark GM to score from long range, prompting Badge to chuck the gloves down and walk out of goal. Despite this the Yellows took the lead when Stewart poked the ball through his own goal and then Steve W scored a couple of rare goals from close range, this was sandwiched between a cracking goal from Stew when he volleyed in a cross from Tony, giving Felix no chance.

When Felix switched sides it was 5-3 to the Yellows when they scored another close range goal through Badge. The change seemed to make all the difference and the Colours were soon dominant scoring very quickly when Tony slotted home at the second attempt.

It appeared that the Colours would go on and win convincingly, but the Yellows got their defence right and the Colours soon ran out of ideas. It was no surprise then when the Yellows scored through a close range effort from Bob.

However as the time ticked towards the end Mark GM conjured up two late goals, that only Mark can, and put the sides level. Cue a frantic end when either side could have won, but didn't.

Man of the Match: Well done to Steve W who claims his first for scoring two goals and making a couple of good saves as well.

COLMER AND BRENNAN ROLL BACK THE YEARS IN COLOURS WIN

Match Report: 20.11.07

Colours: Stewart, Rob, Rupert, Alex, Paul P, Paul B, Steve C, Felix (1st half)
Yellows: Tom, Al, TJ, Mark GM, John, Shane, James, Felix (2nd Half)

Score: Colours 3-2 Yellows

Before the game started the web writer got stick for his choice of man of the match, apparently too many strikers are chosen, though Tom with 4 and Paul B with 3 may indicate otherwise. So feeling that anarchy was on the cards I beat a hasty retreat between the sticks.

On paper the Yellows seemed to have the stronger team and certainly the 2 Colmer's were disgruntled with the now beardless Stewart and his choice of team. Sorry to the rest of the team who may feel insulted by their pessimism.

Despite this the Colours, with a player extra, started to play the better football and took a deserved lead on the 15 minute mark when Rob poached on a through ball. Within 5 minutes it was 2 nil when Stewart scored after a flowing move. However after this they failed to create too many clear cut chances and one wondered whether they would pay for this when Felix swapped sides.

Indeed within 5 minutes of the change the Yellows reduced the arrears when TJ and Mark combined, with the former drilling the ball low easily beating Rupert, then it was 2 all a minute later when Mark had all the time in the world to beat Rupert with a low shot across him.

At this point it looked like it could be a cricket score, but strangely not many chances were created after this with Paul and Steve, especially, outstanding at the heart of the defence, though Paul and Alex were having good games. Another decisive factor was Rob returning to the back to bolster the defence, leaving Stewart as a good outlet. It was probably no surprise then when the Colours failed to deal with Steve's corner and Stewart was left free to poke home.

Man of the Match: Getting stick for picking strikers meant I was going to be stubborn and pick another striker or cave in and pick a defender, in fact this was a choice between Paul and Steve, both outstanding at the back, but this goes to an unsung hero, who usually just gets insulted on a match report, well done Steve you deserved it tonight, time for you to put your feet up drink your Horlicks and finish that Mills and Boon novel off.

MAN OF THE MATCH UPDATE

There are now a maximum of 5 games left so I think it is time for an update on the man of the match award. Below are the only people in with a shout of taking the honours:

On 2 are Rob, TJ, Jimmer

On 3 is Paul B on his own

On 4 are Tom and Jamie

On 5 and with a late surge is Mark GM.

GOAL MACHINE TO THE RESCUE

Match report: 13.11.07

Colours: Stewart, Mark GM, Felix, John, Jack, Rupert, James, Paul P, Jimmer, Steve W
Yellows: Tom, Al, Steve C, Rob, Paul B, Badge, Bob, Rich, Scott, Alex

Score: Colours 3 - 3 Yellows

This was a strange one tonight starting with Stewart sporting a shaven head and a beard, someone suggested his head was upside down, which did not gone down too well.

On the pitch the Yellows were in dominant mood and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 20th minute through a simple tap in for Scott after Rupert had saved a Bob shot. This was followed up quickly with another when Alex guided his shot low into the bottom corner.

At the other the Colours rarely troubled the Yellows goal and it looked like it was going to a walkover when the Colours got a third when the unfortunate Felix put the ball into his own net to make it 3 nil.

The Colours started to get the Saints sinking feeling, but from nowhere Mark GM created a chance for himself to make it 3-1. The Yellows could be excused for thinking they would still comfortably win the game, but slowly the Colours started to look more dangerous and when Mark scored another goal their tails were up and the Yellows were chasing shadows. Then with about 10 minutes to go Mark completed his hatrick, much to the annoyance of the Yellows. They then seemed happy to soak up the late Colour pressure and settle for the draw.

Man of the Match: Badge was looking likely again, but Mark's late strikes gave him another award.
