COLMER AND BRENNAN STAR IN YELLOWS WIN
Match Report: 25.3.08
Colours: Stewart, Badge, Rich, Paul P, Shane, James, John, Simon
Yellows: Rupert, Andy, Felix, Paul B, Steve C, Jimmer, Tony, Mark GM
Score: Colours 4 - 6 Yellows
This was a good game for the elder statesmen of Tuesday night. What a good influence they are on the younger generation. They don't shout back at the ref, or nick money out of purses, or go dogging late at night, they are good honest citizens who play the game in the right way. Paul and Steve were rocks at the back against far younger quicker players, but they used all their nouse to out wit them. You can even forgive Paul for an early slip that let Badger in for an early leveller, because their dedicated defensive play allowed the other players to break forward, while they swept up.
This was, though, a closely fought game and it was level for much of the match. The Yellows went ahead when Andy scored a good opportunist goal but then defensive lapses let in Badge and Rich for simple tap ins. Back came the Yellows and scored good goals through Mark and Andy, only for Rupert and Andy to get in a mix up and let in Badge for another simple goal.
It was 4 all following another Goal Machine goal and then an own goal by the unlucky Andy after good work from Rich who managed to beat several players with clever tight control.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw, despite the Yellows pressure who dominated towards the end with good team football. At the death they were denied about 5 times with goal line saves from various players in a crowded box, but they did score when Tony popped up for a simple tap in and to add salt to the Colours wound Jimmer scored with a rasping 15 yard pile drive that Shane could do little about.
Man of the Match: Often criticised for picking goal scorers last year this week goes to Steve Colmer. Steve was a rock at the back with some great tackles, excellent anticipation and safe solid passing.
