SIX OF THE BEST FOR OUTSTANDING RICH

Match Report: 24.6.08

Colours: James, Rupert, Rich, Paul P, Paul L, Bob, Tony, Steve C
Yellows: Rob, Paul B, Rock, Felix, Jimmer, Den, Jiede, John, Heath

Score: Colours 6-5 Yellows

Over the last few weeks the cream is seemingly rising to the top, first there was an outstanding performance by the goal machine (I thought he was turning up tonight?), last week Andy had a blinder and this week Rich enhanced his chances of the player of the year award with a stunning performance and all 6 goals! Bob was up front chasing shadows (no not Hank Marvin) and scored 0, again that is 0.

The Yellows did play with the extra man, but struggled to really get on top, in fact they were always falling behind and playing catch up. Rich opened the scoring, before Rob was left unmarked to slot the equaliser, back came Colours with another Rich goal, soon followed by the hatrick. The Yellows did hang in there, as Rich was knocking them in at one end there were goals by Rob, Jimmer, Den and an own goal by Steve (who asked me not to mention that one), at the other end. With solid defensive work from Paul, Steve, James, Rich (with some fine last ditch blocks) and saves by Rupert the Colours managed to keep the Yellows at bay.

Man of the Match: Rupert, no not really Rich for all the reasons stated above, that is 5 awards for the talented one.

Please no more Paul's too confusing stick to strange names like Felix and Rupert, people may ask whether your parents were on drugs, or have you got checked trousers etc, but it is worthwhile having a random name when you are playing a team sport. Hence why I called my some Vladamir, after Vladamir the great.

CRUISE FOR TUESDAY BOYS ON DIAMOND NIGHT

Match Report: 17.6.08

Tuesday Boys: Rob, Andy, Rupert, Bob, Badge, Felix, Rock, Rich M, Shane, Heath, Paul P

The other pitch: Don't know their names sorry.

Score: Tuesday Boys 5-1 The Others

As I was driving to the game tonight I was held up because of the Neil Diamond concert at the Rose Bowl I immediately thought well the older guys won't be coming tonight, as I drove past some people on the M27 with the Zimmer's. Well it certainly won't be sweet curry nights (a play on sweet Caroline, get it? By the way does anyone know any of his other songs?) if this many people turn up. Come on chaps where are you?

Anyway it did give the Tuesday boys an opportunity to express their skills on a bigger stage, well ok a bigger pitch, against the luckless team on the other pitch who always seem to lose to us.

The game in truth was a scrappy affair as both teams had to adapt to the full pitch and the ball was given away more than Liz Taylor has been by her father (target audience). Andy was though having a strong game in the midfield, getting back to support the defence and forward to support the strikers and he was the biggest influence in the win tonight.

The Tuesday boys were always the team likely to score with the pace of Badge and Bob troubling the defence and their strikers were pretty ineffective against the towering Heath. Badge did open the scoring and made it 2 when released by a great ball from Rob. Rich M missed a sitter of German proportions before the other team hit back when Rupert did not get to one of the strikers who lobbed Shane.

However after that they never really looked like scoring again and Badge completed his hatrick after touching home a great ball from Andy before Andy himself capped a great night with a great solo goal.

Man of the Match: Though Badge completed a hatrick this was Andy's night and he clearly enjoyed playing on the bigger pitch, so it is Andy who picks up his second award of the season.

UPDATES

Unbelievably we are over half way through 2008, so here are a couple of updates.

Man of the Match awards: Rich leads the way with 4 awards and on 2 are Badge, Mark GM and Rob. There are a few on one.

Most recorded wins: Rupert leads the way with 11, followed by Badge on 8 and Steve C on 7. Poor old James is sat on 2, come on James what is going on?

Let's hope the next 6 months is another good competitive one.

PAINFUL NIGHT FOR YELLOWS

Match Report: 10.6.08

Colours: Rupert, Badge, Bob, Paul L, Paul P, Heath, Den

Yellows: Rob, James, Rich, Rock, Steve C, John, Tony

Score: Colours 6-1 Yellows

What is more painful? Watching Saints? Catching the old todger in your flies? Watching an episode of Fawlty Towers? Being in the Yellows tonight? Well all are painful in their own ways (no I have no experience of number 2, but I have a friend who has), but the Yellows will not want to see this score line again, a score that did not reflect the game as a whole, but like the Ities the other night they just have to take it and move on. By the way did anyone see that cloud shaped like a pair of bikini bottoms? Most interesting I thought.

The Yellows started well and scored within the first few minutes when Rob set up Rich for a simple tap in. Badge then levelled up and made it 2-1 against the run of play. In fact the Yellows appeared to be the better team for the first half hour as they kept possession well and got in to good positions only to have the shot saved, blocked or fluffed.

Ultimately the Yellows paid for their missed chances as the Colours grew into the game as the ageing (sorry guys) team tired so Bob and Badge prospered causing problems on the break, while Heath (following a long lay off) and Paul L were inspired at the back and frustrated the marauding Rich. Goals from Bob, Den x2 and a solo goal from Heath (when he was allowed too much time) killed the game and the Yellows simply ran out of ideas and luck.

Man of the Match: Paul Lewis , along with the returning Heath, was inspired at the back and made a couple of good saves, so Paul gets the nod this week, fair play Paul.

GOAL MACHINCE SHINES IN ONE OFF COMEBACK

Match Report: 3.6.08

Yellows: Rob, Steve C, Paul B, Badge, Scott, Bob, Rich, Rock, James (2nd half)
Colours: Stew, Mark GM, Paul P, Tony, Rupert, Scott, Paul L, John, James (1st half)

Colours 8 - 5 Yellows

Well Stew did get his win this week but he can thank Mark goal machine for a fine display he was a handful all game, but more so early on when he had one harshly ruled out (cue childish voice we did not know you had started, we weren't ready sir etc) but still scored a hatrick within the first 15 minutes. Poor old Rob, so used to winning, did not know what had hit him. This was a truly heart warming performance from the machine and if I had known he was going to turn up I would have brought my good friend along who needed cheering up tonight. Sadly though he will return back to his glamorous town near London, know not Walton-on-Thames, Woking.

The Colours were very much in control of this match and it was 4-0 when James changed sides. Immediately the Yellows were on top and threatened to get back in to it before Stew and Mark scored again to make it 6 nil. They did then start to score goals as the Colours tired but it was all too little too late for Rob and his boys.

Man of the Match: I thought Jo Tessem played well on my Fifa 2003 tonight, especially the goal he scored from the half way line, but even the Goal Machine would have pipped him on this performance. Goals, assists, tackles, headers etc. No I don't love him he just played well leave it.
