YELLOWS COME UP SHORT
Match Report 20.3.07
Colours: Rupert, Felix, Geoff, Stew, Jamie, John, James, Shane (1st half)
Yellows: Tom, Rob, TJ, Paul B, Al, Jimmer, Badge, Shane (2nd half)
Score: Colours 5 4 Yellows
Despite the cold weather there was a good turn out for the first game in two weeks, although many were wearing gloves, hats, tights and thermal underwear (it will not be disclosed who wore this).
Stewart was keen to pick teams with Tom, but he was told to disappear in no uncertain terms. Imagine the film the 'Goodfellas' and you get the picture of Tom's language. This seemed to surprise the lads who had just finnished their game (that even picking teams caused an uproar!)
The game got off to a cagey start, with both teams sniffing each other out like two stray dogs that had just met each other. However Rupert did eventually tuck one away (his first goal since mid Jan) to put the Colours one up.
Felix then also chipped in with a rare goal, laid on a plate by his brother. I realised that his birthday is in October so I decided to give him an early Birthday present. Anyway when he goes home he will sit down with his slippers on and realise that this was a better present than he normally gets from me. The last present was a book stand I got from the dump and before that I got him some porcelain ducks to put on his wall (actually where are those ducks?)
Shane changed teams with the score at 3 nil, but this seem to make little difference because the Colours scored two good goals through Geoff and a longe range chip from Stew and that seemed to be game set and match.
However the Colours seemed to lose concentration and conceded a soft goal when Jimmer fired in. This seemed to stir the Yellows into action and Badge, Jimmer and Rob (especially the latter) created havoc against a Colours defence who had been smoking cigars most of the game. When Geoff went in goal the Colours were right to think that no more goals would be scored, but Badge scored a long range stunner that even Geoff had no chance with, he then proceeded to gloat about this for the rest of the match! Oh and the nutmeg he did on someone! Despite the Yellows comeback, they just fell short, with the Colours breathing a sigh of relief at the end.
Man of the Match: Well done to Rob Colmer who was outstanding tonight and unlucky to be on the losing side. Strong in the tackle and made several impressive bursts up front to keep the defence on their toes; he was very unlucky not to pinch an equaliser, when through on goal, but Geoff saved with his feet.
