NO CHANGE FOR STEW

Match Report: 29.7.08

Colours: Stew, Felix, Paul L, Paul P, Bob, Alex, Shane, Heath

Yellows:Rob, Rupert, Paul B, Steve C, Den, Jean-Pierre, Jimmer, Badge

Score: Colours: 2-5 Yellows

Before the game started Rupert encouraged Stew to give up the captaincy as he just loses most weeks, but then Rob chose me so I told him to carry on!

New boy Jean-Pierre got the Colours off to a flier when he scored 2 quick goals (Jean-Pierre, that reminds me of the French books I learnt at school when it was Marie-Claude, Jean-Pierre, I think, and Toutou the dog. Bless school in the 90's what a great time). Anyway back to the game and although Stew levelled between the JP goals, following a missed placed pass from Den, the 2-1 advantage was held for sometime.

However despite my moan at Stew this game was a lot closer than the score may suggest and indeed after going 2-1 down his team responded well with Stew and Bob making surging runs ably backed by the workers in Felix and Paul P. Indeed it was Bob and Stew who linked to level up at 2 all.

Following the good work this was all undone when a Shane mistake led to Badge making it 3-2 almost straight away and then Badge was allowed to punish slack defending to make it 4-2 and the game was about up, especially as the Yellows looked comfortable in defence and the Stew, Bob strike attack started to run out of ideas.

The game was definitely over when Bob went off for......don't know? But he left for over 5 mins. However with a man less Shane came out of his goal and was lobbed by Badge who went on to complete his hatrick, ironically if Shane had stayed put it might not have been a goal. The Colours battled on gamely but rarely threatened.

Man of the Match: Heath and Paul L had strong games tonight and were unlucky to be on the losing side but Badge gets it this week and although not at his best he scored 3, so you can't complain, unless you are a Colour!

TEAM PLAY PROSPERS

Match Report:22.7.08

Colours: Rob, Scott, Badge, Jimmer, Steve C, Tony, Heath, Rich (first half)

Yellows: Stew, Bob, Felix, Paul B, Paul P, Rock, Rupert, Rich (second half)

Score: Colours 6-3 Yellows

This game illustrates what football is all about pass and move, the other team chases shadows and then you score. There were 2 good goals where the ball was shifted quickly giving the opposition little chance to stop the goal. On the other side it was all huff and puff from the Yellows as too many times the ball was not released quick enough making defending a lot easier.

The Colours took the lead when Scott had too much time to take aim and bury the ball in the corner. However the Yellows then had their best period of the game when Stew scored followed up by a Bob goal when the Colour defence, for the only time, had a slight lapse allowing Bob to tap home.

After this the Colours took over and a few desperate saves from Rupert was only delaying the inevitable and true enough Rich equalised with a thumping shot and then Badge finished expertly before Scott again was given too much time and finished well.

At 4-2 down Rich swapped sides, this gave the Yellows far more possession but to be fair the Colours defended well against blind solo runs and they rarely threatened, only latterly when the game was up and they passed and move a little more did they show a little more threat. Despite the possession it was the Colours who scored again when Jimmer was on the end of another good Colour move. Yellows did score when Rock thumped in from close range, Stew was ever confident and his battle cry was 'were going to win lads', are surveyed said UH UR! Especially after another good team goal when Steve found Badge with a raking pass he squared and the ball was smashed in by Jimmer. Well played Colours they played well tonight even if there was some time wasting going on!

Man of the Match: A tough choice this week as this was a sound team effort, but after much deliberation it goes to Steve for a fine game at the back, some great passes and his overall contribution to the cause.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE FOR COLOURS

Match Report: 1.7.08

Colours: Stew, Mark GM, Tony, John, Jeidi, Paul P, Paul B, Heath, Shane

Yellows: Rupert, Badge, Scott (tall guy), Jimmer, Bob, Alex, Steve C, Rich, Paul L

Score: Colours 6-7 Yellows

The game started with Stew demanding he pick first so he could pick his mate GM, are bless, then he told me I could have the tall guy, what's his name? That would be Scott who has been coming for the last few years!

It was a close cagey game to begin with and inevitably Mark opened the scoring when he placed his shot in the corner. After this it appeared it could be a long night for the Yellows as the goal machine threatened to cut loose. However a flash of brilliance from the Badge and it was all square.

This seemed to deflate the Colours and in a 15 minute spell the Yellows seemed to kill the game when Bob helped himself to 2, Rich got on the score sheet and tall guy himself slotted home. At 5-1 it should have been six as the Yellows were rampant, Rich dummied a cross and Badge somehow screwed wide when he had an open goal to aim at.

The game then took a flat spell with no team exerting any real pressure, but Rupert's decision nearly cost them. He chose to come out of goal and within minutes the Colours scored 3 very quick goals through the goal machine, although Stew said 4 as he scored one, can't remember that one, but I can remember him saying f'ing Nora, good to see that old saying still around. One point to make about the rush of goals is 1. Rupert is great in goal 2. Rupert is crap on pitch and let the team down or 3. The others are rubbish in goal, answers on a postcard, to the stud muffin.com please.

Luckily for Rupert and his team Bob completed his hatrick and Badger's goal meant they stayed ahead, making Heath's late deflected goal a mere consolation.

Man of the Match: Tough one this week with various candidates including Bob for his hatrick, Scott and Badge, but this week goes to Jimmer who stopped the dangerous goal machine playing and thus nullified their attack.
