DOOM AND GLOOM FOR AWARD WINNERS

Match report 2.1.07

Yellows: Steve, Paul B, Rob, James, Jamie, Tony, Scott (2nd half)
Colours: Rupert, Felix, Geoff, TJ, Paul L, Jimmer, Scott (1st half)

Score: Yellows 3 4 Colours

It is so often the way when someone wins an award they then end up on the losing side the following game when so much is expected of them. This was certainly the case for Rob and James. Both annual award winners both ended up on the losing side. It was a strangely subdued game, which was inevitable after too much turkey was eaten and too much beer was drunk over the festive period. Even the laughing AA man Scott was quiet.

With the extra man the Colours strolled into a 2 nil lead. However everything changed after a break in play. Felix lost a contact lens and play was held up. During the hold up Steve kept us entertained with stories of his childhood, remembering the time of the Blitz and how he had to run for cover as the bombers came. Infact Steve explained why he was so slow tonight, apparently the sharpnel in his leg was playing him up, at least he made me look like Linford Christie for the first time in my life.

Felix then had to leave the field of play for a new lens and immediately the Colours conceded 2 soft goals, with Scott somehow letting both slip under him. It is a shame to see such a good goalkeeper in his youth look like a a mere mortal now in his veteran years.

When Felix returned Scott then was made to feel more comfortable by switching to the Yellows a looking like an AA man again. I know a man who can.....as long as he does not go in goal. The switch actually worked for the Colours who soaked up the pressure and then hit the Yellows on the break, with the the fourth goal being a good team goal. Despite a late goal from James the Colours held on to notch up the first win of the year.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Paul Lewis. After a long absence Paul was back and back to his best, with some timely tackles, good passing and good organising of his team.

A couple of points: Jamie informed us that his dad (Simon) has unfortunately damaged his cruciate knee ligament again. Good luck with the rehab Simon, hope to see you back in the future.

Also some comments have been passed my way as to whether I have a life doing this website. I like to add to do have a life and have now given up my coin and stamp collecting in order to do this, so please remember the committment I have made. Love Rup
